10 Steps to College Transition Success

Confirm Enrollment

Follow the instructions on your acceptance letter. Submit no later than May 1st!

Set up your college email account and use this account for all college-related needs. 

Register for your college orientation if necessary.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Review and accept your financial aid package. 

Apply for any additional scholarships or grants through your university. Secure as much funding as possible. 

Set up your payment plan if necessary.

Housing & Meal Plans

Review your housing options. Will you live on or off campus? Keep in mind that some universities only allow on-campus housing for incoming freshmen.

Select your meal plan.

Review Academics

Have your final transcripts sent to your university. This is typically done after your semester 2 grades post. 

Have your AP, AICE, and Dual Enrollment scores/grades sent to your university.

Meet with your college advisor & select your courses. Register for classes and review class materials needed.

Logistics & Planning

Create a dorm essential list.

Plan your transportation to and from your university. 

Coordinate with your roommate on essential, joint needs.

Health & Wellness Requirements

Submit all required health and immunization forms. Make sure you do this in a timely manner as it may hold you from registering for courses. 

Make any last-minute health appointments prior to leaving for university.

Technology

Ensure you have a reliable computer for school. 

​Familiarize yourself with your university's online systems, and check your email regularly. 

Download any helpful campus applications.

Personal Needs

Establish a budget and semester planning sheet. 

Obtain and update any important paperwork (ID, passport, insurance card, etc.).

​Prepare your banking needs.

Social Media & Extracurriculars

Follow your school's social media accounts, especially the freshman class page. There is often handy information and deadlines posted! 

Explore on-campus extracurriculars and clubs. Get involved as much as possible. 

Join online groups and university forums.

Mental Preparation

Prepare for the adventure and challenges ahead.

Spend time with family, friends, and your community before you leave. 

​Prioritize when you will be home for holidays, birthdays, etc. Make sure to communicate this information with your loved ones.
